The Return of the Giant Egg....

11_eggs

11 Giant Elephant Bird Eggs (not real ones of course) decorated with the real patterns of still living bird species (sadly the Elephant Bird is now extinct). These eggs are to be shipped to Germany for an Easter event. I loved reproducing the patterns of real bird eggs. Each egg is about 38 cm in length. Nature's patterns are natures abstracts.

The Eggs go to France

For the Easter weekend the Collective Egg will make an appearance in the South West of France in a beautiful medieval village called St Antonin Noble Val.  This is where I was lucky enough to be the artistic director of the Fete du n'oeuf for some five years.  The event in St Antonin takes place every Easter and about 100 giant half metre high eggs will displayed in the winding streets of this village. I will be showing a few of the eggs from the Zurich Zoo event plus the booklet of the images from the „Collective Egg“ posterous site. I just want to thank all those who contributed to this site and to say that your images will be shown again to highlight the problem of specis extinction and de-forestation in Madagascar.  A huge thank you to all of you once again. Remember The Birds . . . by @BrookwoodRosy

I came across these bird whistles at a time when I was making a series of paintings on a forest near where I lived in 2002. The image in the Egg is made from one of a group of abstract photographic collages I put together in my sketchbook as I reflected on the impact our consumerism has on our forests and the wildlife in them. I was reminded of them recently because of Tim’s work for Madagascar. I have placed the Egg against the backdrop of a painting from my Sunfire series; it seemed appropriate as we also address the concerns of global warming on the environment.
